The Arlington Commission for the Arts administers the grants program for Arlington County artists and arts and cultural organizations. The Arlington County Policy for the Support of Arts Organizations and Artists (as approved by the Arlington County Board on December 8, 1990) describes eligibility for the program, application procedures and criteria for evaluation.
It is Cultural Affairs and the Arlington Commission’s for the Arts common goal to invest in a thriving and equitable arts community in Arlington by supporting Arlington based artists and organizations from communities that face barriers to access. It is with that in mind we are proud to announce our inaugural A.W.A.R.E. (Artists Working to Address and Reimagine Equity.) Grant.
With the allocation of these funds, the County Board highlights the grantmaking priorities of the Arts Commission and Cultural Affairs staff thus addressing the impact of the pandemic on arts organizations and individual artists and their opportunities for recovery, and pursuing opportunities consistent with the Commission’s new Equity Statement on arts in Arlington
The purpose of the AWARE Grant is to provide funding to organizations and/or individual artists or a collaboration of individual artists that identify as, or are led by and/or support at least one of the following communities including, but not limited to: Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC); Queer and Trans BIPOC; LGBTQ+ constituencies; Low income communities; Individuals with Disabilities; Individuals in Institutions; Individuals below the Poverty Line; Individuals with limited English Proficiency; Military Veterans/Active Duty Personnel; and Opportunity Youth.
